Alleged East Coast leader of MS-13 facing murder, drug trafficking charges

(Nassau Co, NY) April 19, 2018 - The alleged leader of MS-13 operations on the East Coast has been extradited to New York from Maryland, where he will have to answer to murder and drug trafficking charges related to the gang's activities on Long Island.

Authorities say 35-year-old Miguel Angel Corea Diaz was arraigned Thursday on Long Island, where authorities blame MS-13 for a wave of violence.

He was ordered to be held without bail.

According to WABC in New York, Diaz is one of 17 defendants previously cited in a 21-count indictment that prompted a local gang sweep in January.

Diaz was being held in Maryland on separate drug charges.

He has previously been referred to as the "the alleged kingpin of MS-13 for the entire Eastern region of the United States."
