Dead Suspect In Officer-involved Shooting Identified

Virginia State Police have identified the suspect in the shooting on Route 29 as Anthony Mikai Hutchinson, 40, of Waynesboro.

Police have also confirmed the incident is connected to the deadly shooting in Nelson County this morning. 

Earlier today, according to State Police, both agenices respnded to a residence on  the 1700 block of Avon Road in Nelson County around 11:00 a.m. Sunday where a deceased  person was found. 

They say they are investigating the incident as a homicide, and search efforts immediately ensued. 


ORIGINAL STORY

A person is dead and a deputy was shot and injured after a crash in Amherst County Sunday. 

The  Amherst County Sheriff's Office said at around 11:20 a.m., deputies  tried to stop a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle wanted  in Nelson County. 

They said the suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed along Route 29 South near Spencer Mountain Road.

Upon crashing, the suspect fired off shots, and a deputy was shot.

More shots were exchanged between the suspect and police, and the suspect is now dead.

The deputy was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
