Man dies after hitting tree, getting ejected in Pittsylvania Co. crash

PITTSYLVANIA Co., Va. (WSET) -- Police are investigating after a man was killed in an accident early Friday morning.

They said the crash happened around 12:14 a.m. on Route 773 at Wade Road, one half of a mile south of Route 794 at Homestead Road in Pittsylvania County.

According to police, a pickup truck was was traveling north on Wade Road, when the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree and overturned, ejecting the driver.

The driver was identified as Lyle Wayne Adkins, 59, of Pittsville, Va.

Police said Adkins was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
