Virginia Residents Have Been Infected With Salmonella Due To Chicken

According to the CDC at least 92 people in 29 states have been infected with a strain of multidrug-resistant salmonella after coming into contact with raw chicken products.

21 people have been hospitalized but so far no deaths have been reported.

So far, the CDC has been investigating and there is no common supplier identified. The investigation remains ongoing.

People who have fallen ill have experienced stomach pain, cramps, diarrhea, and fever 12 to 72 hours after exposure to the bacteria.

When handling poultry, always wash your hands, especially when the meat is raw.

Don't wash chicken before you cook it, as doing so can spread germs to other surfaces and wipe down surfaces that have come in contact with raw meat.
