Four people, including a police officer and the suspected gunman, were shot at Mercy Hospital on the South Side of Chicago. The suspect and another individual have died, while the police officer and the fourth victim remain in critical condition. Police have not identified the victims but said two of them were women.
"I am scared as hell. I have never been so scared, I hear of shootings going on every day at people's workplaces, but not where I work at," a hospital employee told ABC6. "This was very too close to me. That could have been us back there and if any bullets had pierced the wall we all would have been hurt."
While police have not stated what caused the shooting, a witness said that the shooter was walking and talking with one of the victims before he shot her.
The area has been cleared and police said that the patients and staff at the hospital are safe.
