Shelter asking for help; 18 dogs living on short chains rescued in Roanoke

Angels of Assisi in Roanoke is asking for help after removing 18 dogs from a property in the area.

The rescue group said their team started on the scene of a property where there were several dogs in neglectful conditions.

They said the team had been processing the scene for several days, assisting Animal Control with a neglect case.

The 18 dogs were living outdoors on short chains with limited access to shelter.

They were brought in to the shelter late Sunday night, where they were fed, watered, and made comfortable with soft beds and blankets.

Rescue team members also started to administer medical care.

Officials said they are still in the process of evaluating each dog and addressing their individual needs.

They said it will take time for the dogs to adjust and trust people again, but staff and volunteers are ready to work with them every step of the way.

"Thank you for your continued support in helping animals in need, and your help in getting these dogs off of their chains," the shelter wrote in a Facebook post.
