Be Weather Aware As We Are Tracking Strong To Severe Storms For Today

Another round of strong to severe storms will impact our area during the afternoon and evening as a low pressure center and a cold front will pass overhead.

Friday is a weather aware day. Another round of strong to severe storms will impact our area during the afternoon and evening as a low pressure center and a cold front will pass overhead.

TIMING: Our storm window is from around 11AM to midnight with the strongest storms from 12PM to 9PM.

THREATS: The main concerns for today include damaging winds and heavy rain/flooding. If you live near a stream or creek Friday or over the weekend, keep a close eye on it. Also- never drive through a flooded roadway. The tornado threat is low-but not zero. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Best chance of a tornado warning is east of the Blue Ridge. While the threat of large hail is low, some hail is possible.

  • Wipers On = Lights On -Virginia law requires headlights to be on when windshield wipers are active. Headlights also make you more visible to other drivers in heavy rains.
  • Drive for Conditions- Slow your speeds for conditions and give yourself extra stopping distance.
  • Buckle Up -One of the easiest ways to survive a crash is by simply wearing your seat belt and making certain all adult, teen and juvenile passengers are safely secured.
  • Turn Around, Don't Drown- Motorists should never attempt to drive through high water, as the depth and speed of the water can be deceiving and dangerous.
